This presentation is based on the author’s long-term studies on suicide & its impact on professionals. 4 feeling states & clusters that clinicians may feel toward suicidal patients are identified: 1) positive feelings & caring; 2) anxiety, fear, panic & worry; 3) negative feelings – frustration, anger & hatred; & 4) sadness, depression & hopelessness. Turgay states that the development of a better capacity to understand & control these feelings may decrease stress & improve professional coping.
