This paper identifies several specific behaviours manifested by suicidal adolescents or those who may be at risk for suicide & examines specific underlying thought patterns influencing these behaviours. Teenagers interviewed by Dr. R. Firestone disclosed that negative thought patterns (the “voice”) strongly influenced or controlled suicidal behaviours. It is argued that the extent to which an adolescent acts out self-destructive urges is influenced by the depth of the voice process.
