This article describes events leading up to the 1969 formation of The Society of the Compassionate Friends in England. The common bond shared by the founders was that they were bereaved parents of children who had died by accident of illness. One couple befriended another during their worst time & they believed this approach could help others. The accompanying poem called “The Gift” speaks of parental bereavement & the gift of experience & understanding received and given to others.
