This paper describes depression as a common psychiatric problem in the elderly. It describes the risk and occurence of suicide in the aged, predisposing factors of depression, diagnosis, bipolar disorder in the elderly, and grief versus depression. The paper also discusses treatment for elderly peoples including antidepressant medication, electroconvulsive therapy and psychotherapy. (17 ref)
