This Letter to the Editor questions a report by Nemeroff et all on adrenal gland enlargement in major depression. The authors, reporting on adrenal weight measures of 118 persons who suffered sudden deaths in Ontario during a 14 month period, could not find any statistically significant differences in adrenal weights among groups with violent suicides, nonviolent suicides, & sudden deaths. They also questioned if adrenal gland volumes fluctuate over time. A response is provided by C.B. Nemeroff.
