This article examines the development of critical incident stress debriefing & explores its implementation at St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Interviews conducted with health care workers who participated in the debriefing program following critical incident deaths, including the suicide of an adolescent & the attempted suicide of an AIDS patient, are excerpted. Implications for death educators/counsellors are discussed. (19 refs.)
