Surviving a Suicide (IN: For the Bereaved: the Road to Recovery, edited by A J Kutscher et al)
Lester D
The problems & emotions experienced by the bereaved when a suicide death occurs are briefly discussed. These include the unexpectedness of the event & possibility of negative feelings from the community toward family and friends of the deceased. Denying the suicidal nature of the death can hinder the mourning & resolution process & be especially dangerous for the children. The bereaved may also feel rejected by the deceased; reactions of police, insurance agents & other officials may be harsh.
