Chapter
General Versus Specific Risk Factors for Suicide in Schizophrenia (IN: Suicide and Clinical Practice, ed. by D Jacobs)
Weiden P~~Roy A
This chapter focuses on suicidal behaviour in schizophrenia: why it occurs and how to manage it. To understand this phenomenon, we will also have to consider issues apart from the schizophrenia diagnosis. Because these are risk factors for all psychiatric patients, the authors first focus on how these general risk factors interact with the schizophrenic illness. In the second part of the chapter the authors discuss risk factors specific to schizophrenia. (65 refs.)
