An archival study of 110 inmates established that over 39% had no fixed address upon release. Significant differences were found between homeless & non-homeless inmates in terms of institutional behaviour, occurrence of psychopathology, including observed symptoms of major mental illness among the homeless, as well as incidence of violence & parasuicidal behaviour. Homeless inmates were found to be significantly more likely to have made one or more prior suicide attempts. (22 refs.)
