Abstract
Self Poisoning: Admission to Intensive Care Over a one Year Period
O'Donovan F C~~Owens J~~et al
The charts of all cases of self-poisoning admitted to an intensive care unit over one year are reviewed. Two distinct groups are seen, according to the substances ingested. The group who took prescription medications tended to be younger, & had a better outcome. Those poisoned with household or industrial products were older, had a longer stay in intensive care, needed more intensive therapy & organ support, & had a higher mortality. (3 refs.)
