In a conceptual framework of suicide process, literature on life events & social support in suicide is reviewed. It can be concluded that life events play an important role in suicide process as risk & precipitating factors. Findings on disintegration of social networks & poor social support indicate a lack of protective factors. Further research focusing on more specific questions on the role of life events & social support, as well as their interaction, is needed. (62 refs.)
