This paper review recent developments in the understanding, assessment & treatment of suicidal behaviour. Research has begun to look at some of the processes underlying poor interpersonal problem solving, hopelessness about the future, & reduced ability to regulate affect. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, which focuses on using problem solving strategies, produce delays in parasuicide & reduce risks in repetition. The relationship between research and clinical practice is emphasized. (100+ ref.)
