The notion of myths about suicide is a frequent theme in the literature, but with little empirical evidence & what is available is based primarily on USA physicians. The present study looks at the responses of 100 Italian physicians to 20 items of the Suicide Opinion Questionnaire which focus on such myths. The results suggest that a number of these myths are prevalent among physicians & indicate the need for greater education. (30 refs.)
