This article reviews the frequency with which different types of drugs cause fatal poisoning in the United Kingdom and then relates this to the general availability of these drugs by describing fatal toxicity indices (non-fatal poisoning is also described). Results showed that older tricyclic antidepressants have a fatal toxicity index 5-8 times higher than that of new antidepressants (9 refs., tables)
