A meta-analysis of studies of suicidal behaviour in patients with bipolar & unipolar affective disorders found two possible trends: an excess of subsequent completed suicide in unipolar patients & an excess of subsequent attempted suicide in bipolar patients. Suggestions are made for future research. (23 refs.)
