In a 1992 White Paper, the British government set out three targets for mental health, including the reduction of the overall suicide rate & the reduction of the suicide rate among severely mentally ill people. In this article, the author answers some questions on the feasiblity of suicide prevention in England & goes on to suggest important elements in any strategy which sets out to achieve some degree of suicide prevention.
