The structure of the services established to provide psychiaric care to the inmates of the Ontario Region, Correctional Services of Canada, is described. The author considers some problems in the provision of mental health care in a correctional environment, with particular reference to self-mutilation & suicide. Ethical concerns are prominent in practice within prisons & these are discussed with reference to competing issues of confidentiality & public safety. (25 refs.)
