The focus of this chapter is to review the following salient issues in the study of suicide: what is being predicted or assessed; comorbidity and multivariate interdisciplinary models; timing issues; the problem of rare behaviours; false positives and false negatives; instruments or tools of assessment and prediction; and implications for treatment and suicide prevention.
