This chapter reviews the main theoretical arguments & representative research studies related to the themes of social integration/regulation, status integration, & network theory. It is divided into 2 broad sections: “Marriage, the Family, & Suicide,” and “Religion & Suicide.” It also stresses new directions for future research including the testing of a synthetic theory of social individualism & suicide, as well as giving more attention to the growing numbers of people living alone.
