This chapter pursues more effective means for predicting & preventing youth suicide. The 2 processes are linked. The identification of prediction variables should clarify those factors that contribute to the onset of disorder & thus should define factors that prevention strategies should attempt to change. The chapter discusses & reviews the literature relating to suicide as well as relevant research & theory on prediction & enhancement of youth mental health outcomes. (45 Refs.)
