This chapter notes that on average, over their lifetimes, about 10% to 15% of individuals making nonfatal attempts eventually go on to kill themselves. It examines the complexity of the relationship between nonfatal suicide attempts & eventual suicide, the perceived causes & precursors of nonfatal attempts vs completions, & the factors that predict which attempters will eventuallu go on to complete suicide.
