This chapter examines follow-up studies & psychological autopsies as research strategies to identify suicide risk in adolescents. It reports on a case-control study of a consecutive series of 170 completed adolescent suicides. This study was designed to obtain a detailed psychiatric profile through the use of psychological autopsy. It illustrates how suicide rates & risk factors can be estimated in addition to providing predictive information on risk factors for adolescent suicide. (36 Refs.)
