In this article, empirical data about the differences in levels of depression in a large sample of 3 groups of adult bereaved females is reported (255 middle-aged women). The significance of these results enables better comparison between those bereaved of different family members, & allows for consideration of the type of relationship that is lost. Bereaved mothers had significantly higher levels of depression than both widows & bereaved adult daughters. (45 Refs.)
