Nationally, there were 30,906 suicides: 84.7 per day, 12.4 per 100,000 polulation, representing 1.4% of all 1990 deaths. Suicide ranked number 8 as a leading cause of death. Nevada had the highest rate (24.5 per 100,000) & Washington, D.C. the lowest (6.1). Regional data & a ranking of suicide for each State is provided.
