Research from psychological, biochemical, & epidemiological methods reveals a growing body of evidence for the intergenerational transmission of suicide. This article presents research comparing parental divorce & parental death to highlight potential factors associated with intergenerational transmission of suicidal behavior across developmental levels. The importance of diagnosing mental disorders is discussed relative to the development of appropriate suicide assessment methods. (57 Refs.)
