In the Australian study reported in this article, 84 friends of adolescent suicide attempters/completers were compared to 554 students who had low exposure to suicide on a range of preexposure, concurrent, & outcome variables. The 2 groups differed significantly on most variables examined. However, friends of completers did not differ from those of attempters. Greater attention needs to be paid to friends of attempters in the development & evaluation of suicide prevention strategies. (21 Refs.)
