This article identifies psychosocial factors uniquely associated with past suicide attempts in 1,710 adolescents randomly selected from 9 senior high schools in Oregon. Most independent variables were associated with attempts. Variables that remained associated with attempts after controlling for current depression level included externalizing & internalizing problem behavior, past psychiatric disorders, depressotypic cognitions, coping, school problems, health problems, & gender.
