This article notes that in a comparison of Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study subjects having panic disorder (PD), major depression, other disorders, the finding that PD was associated with increased suicide attempts was unexpected. Further studies note that lifetime rates of suicide attempts in persons with uncomplicated PD (7%) were consistently higher than for those with no psychiatric disorder (1%) & that the risk for suicide in PD may equal that associated with primary depression.
