This presentation notes that recent changes in psychiatric diagnostic concepts have changed patterns of mental disorders reported among suicides. The differences between a California study & a Swedish study was due entirely to the absence of Borderline Personality Disorder in the USA sample. Using preselected variables to reassess the California suicides resulted in findings that were no longer significantly different from the Swedish sample. Comparing other variables revealed many similarities.
