This research case conference noted that 2 decades after a report called for universally accepted nomenclature of suicidal behaviors, consensus has not been achieved. Areas where work remains to be done were overviewed as a springboard to the beginning of discussion. 3 models available for building nomenclature include: the categorical model (inclusive & exclusive criteria), dimensional model (factor or cluster analytic techniques), & prototype model (examples that illustrate terms).
