This presentation reflects on the first formal statement on suicide prevention in schools made at a symposium in Vienna in 1910 & notes that 80 years ago, David Earnest Oppenheim, representing the field of education, was advocating suicide prevention, intervention & postvention in schools. Statements made by Oppenheim & Sigmund Freud are included in this summary paper.
