This presentation applies a two-axis model of human development to the problem of suicide trajectory. It proposes that an organism begins each stage at the dystonic position in reaction to a stage-initiating life event & must move vertically to achieve the positive syntonic quality & attain stage-specific syntonic equilibrium. Healthy development at each stage requires ongoing congruency between individuation & attachment. Continuous oscillation between these states is viewed as pathological.
