Very brief psychotherapy has emerged as a unique treatment modality in recent years. An assessment model is presented to guide the clinician in evaluating whether cases are appropriate for very brief intervention in a medical setting & to concomitantly select the most appropriate therapeutic technique. Three cases of male patients who were suicidal or experiencing panic attacks illustrate the use of this model in a consultation/liaison setting. (29 refs.)
