Abstract
Long-Term Follow-Up of Unsuccessful Violent Suicide Attempts: Risk Factors for Subsequent Attempts
van Aalst J A~~Shotts S D~~et al
156 suicide attempts were identified in 9,046 consecutive trauma admissions. 38 patients died; 118 were discharged & received long-term follow-up. 7 patients made repeat suicide attempts. Risk factors associated with repeat attempts were younger age, prior attempts, family history of suicide, schizophrenia & not living at home. Identifying patients with these risk factors & providing them with alcohol abuse treatment, sustained psychiatric treatment & stable homes may prevent repeat attempts.
