To study the relation between specific coping-response preferences & 3 dimensions of psychological disturbance in adolescents, 41 adolescent psychiatric inpatients completed measures of depression, social maladjustment, suicidality, & coping responses to stressful life events. Lower affective regulation was associated with increased depession, higher emotional discharge was associated with increased social maladjustment, & lower problem solving was associated with suicide attempts.
