To see if the lack of association found between the male unemployment rate & the over-all crime rate in metropolitan areas (Vanagunas, 1984) was also associated with personal violence, the male unemployment rates in 1975 for 23 metropolitan areas were correlated with the suicide & homicide rates for the areas. Male unemployment was not associated with the rates of personal violence in the metropolitan areas included in this particular ecological analysis. (2 refs.)
