The authors discuss the case history of a 17-year-old pregnant female who ingested ferrous sulfate (iron supplements) tablets in a suicide attempt. The maternal & fetal effects of accidental or deliberate ingestion of large amounts of iron may be catastrophic. Management strategies & a review of the literature are also presented. (11 refs.)
