This manual describes the need for a suicide prevention program to incorporate more than one type of intervention (e.g. distress lines) in order to be more effective. A general model for such a program and its implementation is presented. 2 program models (one Albertan, one Dutch) are also described. The proposed program model aims to reduce the number of completed suicides, the frequency of self-harming behavior, and the negative impact of suicide in the community. (25 refs.)
