Similarities & differences in adolescent drug & alcohol usage in urban & suburban pediatric practices are reported with respect to racial & ethnic differences. White suburban subjects were heavier users of tobacco & alcohol & experienced more difficulties with things such as suicidal ideation. Other racial/ethnic differences are discussed. Results highlight characteristics of youth drug abuse in the private pediatric practice setting & implications for the pediatrician in caring for adolescents.
