Data were analyzed to assess the potential association between fluoxetine treatment & suicidality in 785 patients with DSM-III-R bulimia nervosa. No fatal suicide acts occurred; 9 of 785 patients made nonfatal attempts & 24 experienced emergent suicidal ideation. No statistically significant increases in suicidal acts or ideation were observed among fluoxetine-treated subjects compared with placebo-treated patients. A decrease in ideation occurred in more patients treated with fluoxetine.
