Psychiatric disorders, psychosocial dysfunction, family pathology, & environmental stressors are thought to be risk factors for adolescent suicide attempts. Variables from each of these categories were examined to determine if a group of 34 controls could be differentiated from 15 at-risk adolescents. Attempters differed significantly from controls on a large number of variables. A discriminant analysis revealed that hopelessness & suicidal ideation were able to identify 93% of the attempters.
