This study examined the cost of violence to hospitals through a census of hospitalizations for intentional violence, including suicide or attempted suicide, homicide & other intentional injuries, legal intervention, & injury due to undetermined causes. Suicide & self-inflicted injury accounted for 58.9% of admissions due to violence. The total cost of these cases was $8,668,283; the highest among all causes of hospitalization because of violence.
