Data is presented on an underreported group: college students who require psychiatric hospitalization. Significant correlations were found between hospitalization & the academic cycle, substance abuse, & distance from home. 59% of the students were admitted with suicidal ideation. Men & women were admitted in equal numbers. The clinical usefulness of hospitalization was indicated by improved Global Assessment Scale scores at discharge. (7 refs.)
