The authors studied the incidence of suicide both in the population of Ankara & among the inpatients of Ankara psychiatry clinics during 1965-80. 9 inpatients completed suicide during this period compared to 424 suicides in the general population. Inpatient suicides were all under the age of 30. In both groups, twice as many males as females completed suicide. 6 of the inpatients were diagnosed with schizophrenia & 3 with psychotic depression. All completed suicide within 1 month of admission.
