National Strategy for the Prevention of Suicide and the Reduction of Self-Injury

To reduce suicide & self-injury & their impact on offenders, staff & significant others, a comprehensive approach for the assessment, prevention, intervention, treatment, support, evaluation, research & training of staff is being developed by the Correctional Service of Canada. This article lists the specific activities which will be undertaken. Because staff training is key to the success to the program, all staff having direct contact with offenders will complete a suicide prevention course.
