Whenever caregivers respond to the needs of people in grief, there is a good chance that this emotional involvement will cause stress. The stress of this involvement as well as the stress from other influences such as, bereavement overload & unrealistic expectations about helping, can result in what the author calls “bereavement caregiver burn-out”. Wolfelt lists 7 symptoms of burnout & then discusses each of these in detail. He reminds caregivers of the importance of taking care of themselves.
