To explore whether the funerals of suicides differ in cost from those of other deaths, the cost of 156 funerals in New Jersey was obtained from the records of funeral directors. Six deaths had been certified as suicides. Results showed that the cost of funerals of the suicides was significantly less than the cost of the controls. The authors caution that the result was based on only a small sample & so must be replicated on a larger sample before it can be considered reliable. (0 refs.)
