85 young prostitutes in Ottawa (46 males & 39 females) were surveyed on their psychosocial history, socioeconomic backgrounds, life on the streets, and the effect of past events on their current behavior. 71% of respondents had thought of suicide to the point of considering methods, and 47% had attempted suicide. 64% had received some form of counselling or psychotherapy. Most had been physically/sexually abused as children & reported regular drug use. 35% were interested in “traditional” jobs.
