A representative sample of homeless people (n=458) in Toronto were surveyed on issues relating to health status & access to health care services. It was found that 49.2% had considered suicide at some point in their lives, & 25.5% had attempted suicide at some time – 7.8% within the past year. 66.0% of female respondents had tried to commit suicide at some time in their lives; 29.4% within the last year. 63.5% of the women had considered suicide within the past year compared to 53.1% of the men.
