Diekstra (1989) provided estimates for rates of attempted suicide for 7 European Community nations in 1976. Rates of completed suicide were available from WHO. Analysis revealed positive, but not statistically significant, correlations between rates of attempted & completed suicides in 6 of the nations. Results suggest that rates of all suicidal behaviours may be associated across nations, but the smallness of the correlation suggests that estimates of attempted suicide may still be unreliable.
